Nairobi city county governor Johnson Sakaja has issued a stern warning to traders using plastic bags citing heavy penalty.
Sakaja while giving his speech at Uhuru Gardens during Labour Day celebrations said outlawed plastic bags have since sneaked back that have since clogging drainage system in city.
“We know why our city is dirty, the plastic bags that were banned are back and they are creating mound in drainage systems. We are going to crack down the whip on the traders and we will make sure they face the law,” Sakaja stated.
Sakaja also said that the operation will help create jobs to the 3,500 youths that will be recruited to clean the city alongside inspectorates.
“The county government is going to recruit youths to help clean the drainage system, to tackle filth menace in the city. We are going to make it open so that every youth can get a chance to participate,” Sakaja added.
The governor further added that among the keys issues to be considered by the president William Ruto is to order implementation of increment of the minimum wages of the private security sector to above ksh 13,000.
The county boss said there has been protracted laxity in the implementation of the presidential directive on minimum wages increment especially in the private sector.
