Reports have emerged of a fresh push to have former Siaya governor Cornell Rasanga arrested over multi-billion shillings fraud he’s suspected to have committed during his ten years in the office.
A senior EACC officer who did not wish to be named told Weekly Citizen that the agency has embarked on reviewing corruption cases related to Siaya County before forwarding the files to the office of the DPP for recommendation, ahead of the possible arrest.
It’s imperative to note that the former governor had initially bragged that he could not be arrested since he was enjoying the protection of ODM leader Raila Odinga and even dared EACC investigators to arrest him if they felt he was corrupt.
However, it’s emerging that the suspended chief Officer for roads Eng. James Onyango was a silent key player in Rasanga’s corruption deals.
A reliable source told Weekly Citizen that Onyango, who is Rasanga’s relative, was strategically positioned in the lucrative docket to aid in dubious deals.
He was among those affected when governor James Orengo sent all County chief officers on compulsory leave following outcry by the public and members of parliament in the county.
