A woman has been arrested after she was caught with Kitui County Government’s money stashed in her house.

The police recovered the bundle after ransacking her house after obtaining a search warrant.

They acted after reports indicated that the woman had been hiding the county’s funds to the tune of Kshs100 million instead of taking it to the bank.

Speaking over the matter, County Police Commandant Anthony Kamitu stated that the police were forced to act after the allegations emerged.

Those are serious allegations and we had to apply for a search warrant, which we got on Monday,” he stated.

Elsewhere, a father and his daughter were arrested after they were found in possession of Kshs700,000 fake currency in Embu.

The two, Josephine Mukami Mugo and Mugo Rware, were found with a suspicious liquid that the police suspected was used to manufacture the money.

They were taken into custody and detained at Manyatta Police Station.

In 2017, a generator belonging to Tharaka Nithi County was also recovered from a property owned by former Governor Samuel Ragwa.

The generator was valued at Kshs2.5 million and had allegedly been donated by a Non-Governmental Organisation.
