Police camp in Naivasha set on fire by unknown attackers: The Standard

Eight police officers escaped death narrowly after suspected arsonists set their camp on fire in a Naivasha estate to protest alleged harassment.
The incident that occurred in the wee hours of Thursday morning saw the officers lose property worth thousands of shillings.
Quick efforts by the Naivasha sub-county fire department stopped the fire from spreading to the camp’s armory.

According to reports from locals, the arsonists first locked from outside the house of the officer in charge before setting a tyre ablaze outside his door.
The fire spread to adjoining houses as the officers scrambled for safety and it took over two hours to put it off.
“The target was the house of the Inspector who fortunately wasn’t in but the fire burnt down his house before spreading to the other structures,” he said.
Naivasha sub-county commissioner Mathioya Mbogo confirmed the incident adding that no one was injured and police had launched their investigations.
“At the moment we don’t want to start speculation on the cause or motive but our security officers are investigating the incident and necessary action will be taken if need be,” he said.

The Standard Digital established that residents of the area have been complaining about harassment by the officers from the camp, something that is said to have triggered the arson attack.
