Four people were Sunday evening injured in an attempted attack on a Chinese road construction site in Shimbirey, about 50 kilometers from Garissa town.
Confirming the injuries, Garissa County Police Commander Richard Kerina who was among the top security officers who visited the scene said swift response by the police helped save lives.
According to the locals who spoke to the press on condition of anonymity, eight hooded gunmen all armed with AK-47 rifles kidnapped a man from a nearby village and ordered him to take them to the Chinese construction site camp.
As they approached the camp, they started shooting indiscriminately prompting the workers to scamper for safety.

Kerina said security officers guarding the camp returned fire and in about 15 minutes were able to repulse the gunmen who fled to the nearby thicket.
The police boss also said they are pursuing the raiders who are said to have escaped on foot towards Dadaab area.
“As per the tracking, quite a number of them sustained bullet injuries and we right on their heels. Sooner we shall catch up with them,” Kerina said.
“There is top notch coordination from officer in and around the scene and with the help of wananchi, we shall ensure that these criminals are arrested and brought to book,” he added.
Meanwhile,three suspected Al-Shabaab militants armed with Ak-47 rifles and several rounds of ammunition who were arrested in Hagaderas refugee camp in Dadaab over the weekend have bee transferred to Nairobi for further interrogation.
Elsewhere, the ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has scheduled a high level security meeting at the seaside city of Mombasa.
The meeting is being attended by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Principal Secretary, Dr. Karanja Kibicho, and the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet.
They will hold a joint meeting with newly appointed Regional and County Commanders and the National Government Administration Officers for an in-depth status update on security in the country.
This coming after Mombasa County commissioner Evans Achoki said the county is adequately prepared for any eventuality should there be a terror attack as witnessed on Tuesday in Nairobi.
He said the county is on high alert with security agencies having increased their patrols and sharing of intelligence.
