NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 16 – Kenya Police FC have now been jibed as ‘Police Saint Germain’ due to their investment in building a strong squad after the acquisition of Kenyan international Abud Omar, striker Derrick Otanga and goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.

Police have been building a ‘super squad’ to aid them in battling for a first ever Premier League title, and the pressure is now on them to translate the strength in their squad to battling for titles.

The acquisition of the three in mid-season has put Police’s squad as one of the strongest this season and they now hope to strongly challenge.

Matasi’s arrival has been chased from the start of the season, with Tusker initially rejecting bids for their number one, but with three months left on his contract, they came to an agreement for a transfer with an undisclosed fee involved.

Job Ochieng has been the Police number one since last season and now faces a challenge for the starting role, with Matasi’s experience at play.

The keeper has been named in Thursday’s squad for the team that travelled to Bungoma to face off with Nzoia Sugar in what will be a potential blockbuster, the two teams being side by side in the standings.

Both sides are on 34 points with Police fourth on goal difference. A win for either, coupled with defeats for both Tusker FC and KCB will hoist them to second place.

Nzoia who were off to a flier this season have cooled down over the last five games winning only once, and are winless in their last four. They have drawn three and lost last weekend’s trip down to the Coast against Bandari.

Police on the other hand have won three of their last five, drawing one and losing 2-1 to league leaders Gor Mahia.

Meanwhile, second placed KCB play leaders Gor in a top of the table clash on Friday.

In other fixtures scheduled for Thursday, resurgent Mathare United face Bandari FC at the Kasarani Annex in the early kick off, seeking to continue with their winning ways.

The Slum Boys have been resurgent since February and have won three of their last five matches to hoist themselves off the relegation zone.

Two of those victories have been against giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards and they will be beaming with confidence heading into Thursday afternoon’s game.

In the late kick off, Sofapaka takes on Kakamega Homeboyz.

FKF Premier League Thursday fixtures:

Mathare United vs Bandari (1pm), Sofapaka vs Kakamega Homeboyz (3:15pm – Kasarani Annex), Posta Rangers vs AFC Leopards (Nyayo National Stadium), Ulinzi Stars vs Tusker FC (Ulinzi Sports Complex), Vihiga United vs Kariobangi Sharks (Mumias), Wazito vs Nairobi City Stars (Muhoroni), Nzoia Sugar vs Kenya Police FC (Sudi Stadium, Bungoma).
