As schools enter the re-opening day Thursday after the midterm break, the National Police Service (NPS) is assuring the public of their safety and that of their children as they travel on public roads across the country.
On its twitter page, NPS say they have left nothing to chance and the traffic officers will continue to intensify patrols and surveillance on the roads.
“We are confident that the few days students have been at home have been enriching to them and lessons learned on civic duty and responsibility considering the peaceful conduct by the public in the just concluded General Election,” the tweet.
They called on parents and guardians to ensure that school children report back as directed by the Ministry of Education.
The two-weeks break was to pave way for the general election to take place.
The Ministry of Education is categorical that there will be no further disruption of the school calendar in the event of a repeat presidential election or a by-election.
“If there is an election somewhere and it is going to take a day we are not going to ask our children to go home again. It is far much wiser to ensure that children who are in boarding schools remain there and avoid classrooms where voting will be taking place, ” CS Prof George Magoha said.
“We shall also avoid having IEBC create tallying centres where children are going to be using. We want to persuade them to shift tallying centres to other places such as higher learning institutions,” Magoha stated
Magoha spoke Wednesday during the commissioning of Competence-Based Curriculum classes in Mwangaza and Ofafa Jericho secondary school in Embakasi sub-county.
The second half of the term is expected to run until September 16 according to the revised Ministry of Education calendar set to cover the lost time during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2022 academic year has two national exams with the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) slated for between November 28 and December 23.
The Grade Six exam will be administered between November 28 and 30, with 1.27 million candidates registered to sit the pioneer exam under the new curriculum which will see them join junior secondary schools.
