Mandera County Police Commander Joanah Tonui has warned that the police will not hesitate to arrest politicians spreading hate speech in the region.
Speaking while attending an election preparedness and security training Tonui said campaign rallies should end at 6pm in the evening and candidates should seek permits to conduct campaigns.
He said all security organs are on high alert during the electioneering period and will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those propagating violence.
Tonui said the elections will be over in one day and shouldn’t therefore be used to incite residents against one another.
The meeting brought together peace Actors and the National Cohesion and Integration commission to educate candidates on need for peaceful election.
Abdullahi Yunis a community leader called for a peaceful election even as he urged politicians to refrain from creating chaos and live as brothers.
He asked women and girls not to be lured into anti-social behavior as it will lead to separation of families and urged the political candidates to refrain from using residents to cause chaos.
Hussein said politicians should use polite language during their campaigns as it will unite residents.
