The outgoing Deputy President and President-Elect William Samoei Ruto is set to meet all the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Kenya Kwanza elected leaders after the culmination of August General Elections.

Ruto who was declared the winner of Presidential Elections in a hotly-contested race that saw him overcome his closest rival Raila Amollo Odinga will on Wednesday adress the governors, senators, woman representatives and members of national assembly elected on Kenya Kwanza coalition.

UDA is set to control the Senate after bagging a majority of the seats across the country after garnering 24 senators compared to 23 of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya under the stewardship of Raila Odinga.

The party bagged the seats majorly from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s political bastion of Mt Kenya and Ruto’s backyard of Rift Valley.

This is a bit down from the number Jubilee had after the 2017 General Election when it claimed 27 out of 47 available seat and is assured of more nominated senator slots, based on its performance in this election.

Azimio la Umjoa has a majority in the National Assembly with 162 members compared to Kenya Kwanza which has 159 members.

Before the election, Dr Ruto had exuded confidence that he will control both the National Assembly and the Senate whether or not he wins the presidency.

UDA fielded 261 National Assembly candidates out of 290 constituencies countrywide, complemented by addition of candidates fielded by affiliate parties in Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford-Kenya under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

On single-party membership, Ruto’s UDA carried the day in the National Assembly with 137 members with Raila’s ODM coming second at 85. The two are followed by ruling party Jubilee with 28 MPs and Wiper with 24.

UDA will therefore get a majority of the 12 nominated MP slots.

At least seven of Kenya’s 47 incoming governors are women, compared with only three in the last government, according to results from the country’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
