President William Ruto has announced the reorganisation of government departments the reassigning of some functions for his administration.
Through Executive Order No.1 of 2023 stated key roles of officials from the Vice President to the Chief Executive Officers of State Corporations and State Agencies.
In the changes, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has a new role in the Coffee reforms sector.
Additionally, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will chair and co-ordinate National Government legislative agenda across all ministries and state departments in consultation with Kenya Kwanza Leaders in Parliament.
The Ministry of Environment headed by Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has split into the State Department for Environment and Climate under Principal Secretary Eng. Festus Ng’eno and State Department under PS Ephantus Kimani to reflect focus on 15 billion trees planting projection in five years.
Along with the changes, the Ministry of Health headed by CS Susan Nakhumincha has split into State Department for Medical Services under Principal Secretary Eng.Peter K and State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards under Principal Secretary Dr. Josephine Mburu.
Also, the Ministry of Trade, Investments and Industry split into State Department for Investments Promotion under Principal Secretary Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, State Department for Trade under Principal Secretary Alfred Ombudo and State Department for Industry under Principal Secretary Dr.Juma Mukhwana.
Kipchumba Murkomen’s Ministry of Transport has will remain with State Departments of Roads and Transport respectively; State Department of Public Works now domiciled under the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development under CS Zachariah Mwangi
