The much awaited security  guards strike has been suspended following intervention between Kenya National Private Workers Union and the Private Security Regulatory Authority boss Fazul Mohammed .

The strike was to kick off today but the two groups were directed by the president to form a committee comprising of all stakeholders to iron out contentious issues affecting private security guards.

According to  Kenya National Private Security Workers Union Secretary-General Isaac Andabwa they will engage in the said committee but should it fail to address their issues within seven days , the strike  will go on.

‘‘We have a letter here from the office of the president requiring both parties  to sit and discuss the wages of security guards among other matters, but I want to assure them that should it fail we have no option but to engage the government and clients with the language they understand best.’’ He reiterated.

The union says some security firms like Magic  company pay as low as Ksh. 6,000 salary per month to a security  guard working without leave.

He now demands  all security firms to comply with country’’s employment regulation by paying security officers the right minimum wage  among other labour benefits like NHIF,NSSF.

Private security companies put on notice by the union for violating workers rights include Lavington and Hatari.

Also on notice are county governments which  give security jobs and tenders to proxies mainly their friends and relatives without relevant qualifications.
