At least fourteen people are feared dead and scores of others injured after a Pwani University bus crashed with a 14-seater matatu at Kayole area in Naivasha along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway earlier today.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit at least five vehicles before rolling into a ditch.
Rift Valley police boss Tom Odera revealed that the bus was ferrying about 30 people; teachers and students headed for KUSA national playoffs ‘B’2023 games.
“The bus rolled and killed 14 on the spot. We may have more casualties,” he said.
The injured victims were taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
At the time, it is said at least thirty people were aboard the fateful bus among them students and teachers head for sports competitions when the accident occurred afternoon.
Azimio One Kenya Coalition leader and opposition boss Raila Odinga and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa were among leaders who mourned the accident victims.
“It is with great sadness, I have received news of a grisly road accident involving a Pwani University bus and a 14 seater matatu in Naivasha.” Jumwa said through a post on her Twitter handle.
On the other and, Raila sent his deepest condolences to the Pwani University community.
“I extend my sincere condolences to the Pwani University community and all those who lost colleagues, friends, and loved ones in the regrettable accident that involved a Pwani University bus and matatu on the Naivasha-Nakuru highway.” Raila noted.
