The Party of National Unity (PNU) has criticised the government for the move to withdraw the security of Azimio One Kenya principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

The party top brass led by party leader Peter Munya said the Ruto government is using unorthodox means to intimidate the Azimio brigade.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the withdrawal of security of our leaders. Every Kenyan is entitled to security from the state and that is not negotiable.” Munya told a media conference at party head office after a NEC meeting.

“We are asking them to reinstate the security contingents guarding Raila Kalonzo and other leaders; it is very unfortunate and we don’t think this is a good turn of events.” He added.

At the same time, Munya underscored the party’s support for the planned demonstrations starting tomorrow through to Friday noting that Kenyans needed to express themselves in accordance with the constitution.

Munya said the demos are a way Kenyans express their displeasure on the leadership style of the Kenya Kwanza government in running the economy and the country.

“We are law abiding citizens and urge Kenyans to observe the law during demonstrations because that is the only way to express their grievances.” He said. “I can tell you for free that we are going to participate actively in the demonstrations starting tomorrow.” He however, did not give details of their itinerary.

Munya said the NEC had decided to have him reinstated as party leader, a position he had relinquished when he was appointed as cabinet secretary under retired president Uhuru Kenyatta.

He reiterated that the party is firmly in Azimio and its leaders will be representing it in the meetings.
