Struggling Mount Kenya United picked their first point of the season after holding Kariobangi Sharks to a 1-1 draw in the early kick-off of Wednesday’s SportPesa Premier League action at Kenyatta stadium in Machakos.
The hosts broke the deadlock on 18 minutes through Samuel Ndung’u whose corner kick sailed into the back of the net untouched with John Oyemba well beaten in Sharks goal.
The lead didn’t last long as Sydney Lokale smashed home a rebound on 24 minutes to level the scores. His initial shot from the edge box had cannoned off the post.
Sharks coach William Muluya handed goalkeeper John Oyemba his third consecutive start as Tom Teka and John Kuol partnered at the back.
Patillah Omoto controlled the midfield alongside Duke Abuya and Vincent Wasambo.
George Abege partnered youthful striker Lokale upfront but their afternoon was vigilantly kept tough by the Mt Kenya defence led by Frank Balla.
Abege spurned a late chance to grab the winner when he blasted wide from close range after Harrison Mwendwa had picked him out with a cross on 72 minutes.
