The family of retired President Daniel Arap Moi has dismissed reports claiming that he is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Nairobi Hospital.
In a statement issued by Moi’s Press Secretary Lee Njiru on Tuesday, the family faulted a section of the media for publishing what it termed as “negative and alarmist” reports about the former president’s health status.
Njiru stated that Moi was under the care of a team of doctors, adding that he is alert and aware of his surroundings
“The true position is that Mzee Moi is in hospital being attended to by a professional medical team led by his personal physician, Dr. David Silverstein. He is alert and conscious of his surroundings,” said Njiru.
“The family is asking the media to, in this regard, publish only the medical bulletins issued through the legally established official channel,” he added.
He added that Moi’s family had noted with gratitude the immense interest his hospitalization has generated, both locally and internationally.
“The family is extremely thankful and grateful to all Kenyans and well-wishers from abroad for their prayers and ‘speedy recovery’ messages.”
This is the second time within this month that the 95-year-old has been taken to Nairobi Hospital. He was first admitted on October 13th and discharged about a week later after his doctors gave him a clean bill of health.
