Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has directed the Inspectorate  department to move with speed and issue specific locations to Bodabodas within Nairobi Central District for dropping and picking of their  customers.

According to Sakaja there must be an order in CBD and that they will  give bodaboda operators stages before arresting those violating the by-laws.

“I want to direct that my officers meet within seven days, the bodaboda leaders and agree on the designated areas for  picking and  dropping customers within the CBD. So that must be done,” Sakaja said.

He further defended his recent move to release motorcycles that were impounded saying it was unrealistic holding them before providing operation guidelines.

“We can’t arrest anyone before we provide for the dropping and picking points let’s agree and once we do that those contravening will  be arrested and don’t call me at that point because we must follow the law,” he added.

In the last administration bodaboda operators  were only allowed to pick and drop along Haile Selassie Avenue, Nyayo Round About, Kirinyaga road, Racecourse Road and Globe round about.

This was abused by the operators and at some point former Starehe constituency member of parliament Charles Njagua took County Government to court over the matter.

In the suit against the Nairobi county government and Governor Sonko, Jaguar claimed that the ban could lead to more harm than good since the riders will be rendered jobless.

On March 26, the High Court dismissed Jaguar’s case.
