NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 5 – Samsung has recorded a 50 per cent increase in the pre-orders of its recently unveiled phones, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 whose pre-order period kicked off on August 11 and ended on September 4.
The firm termed it a great success compared to the preorder of the previous foldable phones, with the majority of the pre-orders coming from holders of top business positions in the country.
Director of Mobile Experience Division, Samsung Electronics East Africa Limited Charles Kimari attributed this to Kenyans being early adopters who are quick to take up new trends.
“This year we have seen the Samsung Galaxy Foldable do quite well during the pre-order period. We had intentions of ending the preorder on 31st August. However, due to demand and request for extension, we opted to add a few days to enable those who haven’t made their pre-orders to do so as we aim to officially end on 4th September,” said Kimari.
He further attributed the shift in the purchase of the phones to the decision the tech giant made to partner with other firms to offer trade-in services and financing services with a 0 per cent interest for six months.
“In previous years, the Fold has always been the driver for the Foldable Smartphone category but this year, we have seen a shift in purchase trends and we can attribute this to the acquisition steps we have taken like partnership with Badili Africa who offer trade-in service and Aspira Kenya who allow our customers to acquire the devices and pay within 6 months attracting 0 per cent interest,” noted Kimari.
Some of the offers those who made the pre-orders will enjoy include a phone cover, S-Pen, Samsung Care Plus and a 24-month warranty for Galaxy Z Fold 4 and a clear slim phone cover, Samsung Care Plus and a 24-month warranty for Galaxy Z Flip 4.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is Samsung’s first device to ship with android 12L, a special version of android that is created for large-screen experiences including foldable devices.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 which bags storage of 12GB RAM and 512 ROM retails at Sh256,999 whereas the Galaxy Z Flip which has 12GB and 256GB storage retails at Sh142,999.
Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes in three colours gray green, phantom black and beige and with a main screen dimension of 7.6 inches and a cover screen of 6.2 inches. The Galaxy Z Flip4comes in Bora purple, graphite, pink gold and blue colours and has a main screen of 6.7 inches and a 1.9 inches cover screen.
The Z Flip 4 has a 10 megapixels front camera and dual rear camera, a 12 MP ultra wide-angle camera and a 12 MP wide-angle camera with a 4K Ultra High Dimension (UHD) recording capacity.
The Z Fold 4 has a cover camera of 10MP, a 4MP under-display front camera and a triple rear camera of 12MP Ultra-wide camera, 50MP Wide angle camera and 10MP telephoto camera.
After the end of the pre-order period, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will be available for sale at all Samsung experience stores and its dealer stores countrywide. Both devices come with Samsung Care+ which allows one to get a free screen replacement on accidental damage as well as maintenance if any other issue might arise.
