Sarova Hotels and Resorts has shut down its Thorn Tree Cafe after two employees at this establishment tested positive for COVID-19.

” As a result of this development, we have closed the restaurant and have implemented our health, safety, and compliance protocols, which include fumigation and disinfection of the entire hotel. We will also be reapplying to the Ministry of Health for a new operating permit for the restaurant as per the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 protocols,” said the Hotel’s management.

Other high-end restaurants and hotel establishments that have been adversely affected by the pandemic are; Weston Hotel, Enashipai Resort and Spa, Ole-Sereni Hotel, and EMARA Ole-Sereni, DusitD2 Nairobi, Sopa Lodges, White Rhino Hotel in Nyeri and Maiyan in Nanyuki.

While some hotel chains are yet to re-open, others have resumed business. One such establishment is hotel chain Hemmingways, which has reopened its Nairobi and Watamu properties, four months after closure over the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the hotel has fully opened its rooms, restaurants, spa and other amenities, there are limitations in the use of these facilities as per the COVID-19 protocols issued by the Ministry of Health.
