The world of dating can be challenging to maneuver.

Some of the dates we go to go well and even spark genuine romance. Others, unfortunately go disastrously where people end up never wanting to meet again. On first dates especially, things often don’t go as planned.

For one reason or another, the date might not have been as enjoyable as it was intended to be. Luckily, this situation can be salvaged through some of these tips below.

  1. Give yourselves space

People deal with disappointments differently. Some like to get straight to the point while others prefer to take their time before they can address the issue. When it comes to recovering from a bad first date, it is advisable to take time to think about what went wrong before you reach out to talk. Your date may not be as willing to talk about it when you reach out too soon but don’t take too long either. Give them a reasonable amount of time to think about things before you approach them again.

The effects of a failed first date can leave you feeling heartbroken and discouraged. You might put all the blame on yourself without thinking rationally about what actually happened. Keep in mind that disaster dates happen all the time and that you can recover from them. You are not the first and definitely not the last person to experience a bad date. The last thing you want is to make a bad impression when you first go on a date with someone. You might have offended your date by making inappropriate comments or asking insensitive questions. Other times, you might have flaked out on them at the last minute for whatever reason. Such situations can discourage your date from wanting to associate with you again. Be honest with yourself if you offended them and take responsibility for what you might have said or done. This will really help neutralize the situation before it goes any further.

When a first date goes terribly, you might be too embarrassed to see to them again. If you work with them or visit the same places regularly, it is impossible to hide away forever. In some cases, some factors that are not in our control can also cause a date to not go as planned. Politely ask is they would be interested in a second date even just as friends in order to show politeness. Be patient with them as well and don’t pressure them to respond.

After evaluating what could have contributed to the terrible first date, be honest with them. If you discovered that you were just nervous or even incompatible with each other, communicate on how you really feel as you listen to what they have to say. This is a great way to have some closure and prevent you both from holding grudges against each other. It is best to politely address the issues as you figure out what to do next.

If you have tried to reach out to your date with no response, it might be time to move on. They may also have made it clear that they have no interest in meeting you again. This can be heartbreaking and hard to accept especially if you saw a future with them. Make peace with the situation and focus on having better dates with other people in future.
