International dancehall star Shenseea has become the first Jamaican female artist to be nominated for an MTV Video Music Award.
Shenseea is nominated for PUSH performance of the year (Best New Artist) for her performance of her single ‘R U That,’ which features American-based rapper 21 Savage which was aired on MTV in March 2022.
“The first VMA nomination for me AND Jamaica🇯🇲 . Click the link and vote everyday💕 ,” Shenseea wrote in post.
The MTV PUSH platform highlights breakout artists and features exclusive performances, interviews, and personalized content.
The only other Jamaican artist to ever be nominated for an MTV VMA Award is Sean Paul.
‘R U That’ is just one of the singles off Shenseea’s debut album, ALPHA, which was released in March and debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Reggae Chart.
Since coming to the spotlight in 2015, Shenseea has had a fast rise to fame and is now one of the leading ladies in dancehall, with a massive international following and collaborations with a wide range of artists from different genres such as Megan Thee Stallion, Young Thug, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Tarrus Riley,Kanye West amongst others.
The ‘Lighter’ hit maker also bagged the Best Reggae Act at the 2021 British based Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards amongst other major awards.
