Kisumu county governor Anyang Nyong’o is a man under pressure steering a shaky vessel on turbulent and stormy waters.
Pundits blame this on an alliance of three people who are now evidently functioning as the inner kitchen cabinet of the governor.
At the centre of Nyong’o’s advisers is none other than his hitherto little known wife, Dorothy Nyong’o, who has replaced the deputy governor Mathews Owili as the governor’s assistant.

Dorothy has built her own team of associates mostly business people and who are influencing the procurement process, the awarding of contracts and tenders and even the key appointment of the key personnel in the county board, the assembly and the city at large.
Her other notable associate is a Mrs Attyang who is designated to be appointed to the cabinet as health minister. Skeptics are already reading mischief in the making, saying she could be getting the post to influence the goings-on at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referal Hospital in the lakeside city.
Lately, the institution has been dogged by shoddy dealings in the diversion of its medical supplies to the highly competitive pharmaceuticals market courtesy of vested interests many believed to be linked to the governor, his wife and associates.
Nerry Achar, is the third person in this unholy trinity. He is said to be the man with a big office but one who plays a small role.
As the finance minister, observers keenly say that he is not exercising his functions independently but rather, they stress, he is working as a vestige, proxy or stooge of Dorothy, the governor’s wife. For instance, he receives policy directions from Nyong’o for implementation only to make an about turn to inform Dorothy who then adjust or reverse them at her will.
This has exposed Nyong’o’s weakness. This kind of inefficiency has raised questions as to who exactly is running the county as Dorothy is known to be a loose woman.

Dorothy who is not new to controversy has had her name once featured in the Geolife Neo Dynamite network marketing chain of the late 1990s. Many Kenyans invested hard earned money to venture into the scheme only to lose their money.
Attyiany who is also not new to controversy and suspicions has been eyeing the county women representative position currently occupied by Rosa Buyu. On this basis, her appointment is an opportunity for her to raise funds for her 2022 debut into an elective position.
Her track records remains questionable when she served in the Inter-Governmental Technical Committee and there are questions being raised on the professional competency of the obscure ghost team.
Attyiany’s medical training back ground has come sharply with skeptics doubting whether she fits the appointment.
The rise of the Dorothy group has eclipsed the authority of the Owili group who were mostly visible in the pre-campaigns periods. Now they have been relegated to mere spectators.
The credibility, integrity and performance of the Dorothy team has exposed the internal fragmentation of Nyong’o’s once inclusive team that has now been shown the pavement.
