Sofapaka edged out AFC Leopards 4-3 in post-match penalties to win the Jamhuri Day Cup played on Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Nyayo Stadium.

The match ended 1-1 in regulation time and has been credited as a draw in the official FKF Premier League records.

Washington Munene gave AFC Leopards the lead after converting from a penalty in the 13th minute.

The 24th minute saw Sofapaka’s Davies Kasirye almost equalize the scores with his shot on target but AFC Leopard’s Goalkeeper Levis Opiyo saved his attempt, maintaining the scores at 1-0.

In the 45th minute, Nixon Omondi tried to put Sofapaka back on the map through a free-kick shot, however, the ball went wide, closing the halftime scores at 1-0.

After the breather, Roddy Manga equalized the scores, six minutes to stoppage time after converting from a corner kick.

Three minutes of added time could not break the stalemate, sending the match to penalties. Sofapaka’s Goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya scored the winning goal to give Sofapaka the Jamhuri Cup title.

Meanwhile, at the MISC Kasarani, Kenya Police was held to a goalless draw by visiting Bandari.
