National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi communicated the changes on Thursday afternoon after receiving communication of the changes from the Jubilee party after a Parliamentary group meeting made the said resolutions.

“I wish to inform the House that I have received a letter from the Leader of the Majority Party, communicating that the Jubilee Parliamentary Group at its meeting held on June 2, 2020, designated the following members to offices of the Majority Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip respectively.” He said.

Wangwe and Maore will replace Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire after the two were ousted during the PG.

Muturi said the changes take effect from June 2, 2020, being the date the said letter together with minutes of the said Jubilee PG Meeting were received in his office.

‘I take this opportunity to congratulate the two Members for their appointment to the respective offices and wish them well. I also wish to thank the outgoing office-bearers for diligently carrying out their work as Majority and Deputy Majority Whip and wish them well as they discharge their other duties as Members of Parliament.” He said.

Mbarire was at hand to thank the President and the Jubilee party for giving her the chance to serve as the Majority party’s Deputy Whip as well as Majority leader Aden Duale who survived the purge, for the good working relationship they had saying she leaves the office with her head held high.

Wangwe on the other hand thanked the President for this opportunity saying it is now time to unite and support Jubilee realize the Big4 agenda as well as push for BBI.

The replacement of Deputy Minority leader Chris Wamalwa however elicited varying reactions as he got embroiled in an exchange of words with Minority Whip Junet Mohammed.

Wamalwa was however magnanimous in defeat saying, “This matter happened Mr. speaker and I accepted, there is no one who can hold a position for life.”
