KISUMU, Kenya, Mar 17 – The State House in Kisumu was Friday under tight guard even as demonstrators failed to move past the Central Business District (CBD) owing to the huge police presence.
The few demonstrators were accompanied only by Kisumu Central ODM chairman Seth Kanga.
Kanga had complained that the local leadership failed to show up at the start of the demos in Kondele.
“Most of our leaders are not here because they were threatened with arrest by the police,” he said.
Kanga says leaders must show solidarity with the people not to coil their tails when threatened by the police.
After reaching town centre, the demonstrators fearing the police made a U-turn towards jua Kali, where they dispersed after sometimes.
The police mounted a human roadblock and spikes while armed with batons and glad in anti riot attire.
