State rolls out pilot project for huduma digital cards



Interior ministry has announced the commencement of a pilot project for the replacement of the current identification cards to the proposed Huduma digital cards.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said Pilot project is expected to begin on Monday the 18th of February in 15 counties and 40 sub-counties.

Regions expected to roll out the test initiative are Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Marsabit, Embu, Makuni, Kisumu, Kisii, Wajir, Busia, Kajiado, Kilifi, Nyandarua and Kiambu.

President Uhuru Kenyatta last month issued a directive requiring every individual to be provided with a unique number known as a Huduma Number which will be generated by the National Integrated Identity Management System.d

He said a central database of all persons will be established from which regional and county commanders will get official details of persons in Kenya.

According to the President, the integrated population registration system will be the authentic single source of truth on personal identity in Kenya.

The Head of State said: “to enhance the progress made by the Integrated Population Registration System, my administration will complete a central master population database which will be the authentic ‘single source of truth’ on personal identity in Kenya”.
