A student at Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma County has died by suicide after she was reportedly humiliated for altering her exam results.
The Form One student hanged herself with a bedsheet in the dormitory after the school’s deputy principal chided her during the school parade for sneaking into the staff room and doctoring her marks in a Geography test.
The girl is said to have filled in a fresh exam paper and awarded herself a score of 93 percent before sneaking to the staff room and placing it with other exam sheets inside her Geography teacher’s desk.
After the student’s ploy was discovered, the deputy principal reportedly called her out during the school’s parade and embarrassed her in front of her fellow students.
The girl’s lifeless body was later discovered in the dormitory on Wednesday with a bed sheet tied around the neck.
The school administration declined to comment on the matter as the Principal was not around.
The student’s body was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital as investigations continue.
