It was song and dance at Moi Girls High School Eldoret after 21 candidates scored straight As, up from 14 As last year.

The school’s deputy principal Henry Kimng’ok, who led teachers in celebrations yesterday, said the secret to the good performance was early coverage of the syllabus and mentorship of students. He also attributed the good results of the 351 candidates to determination by teachers and support of parents.
Mr Kimng’ok said some girls exceeded expectations to post incredible marks in the results released by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
Florence Chebii, Mercy Makenge and Lucy Boit, who scored straight As of 84 points, emerged among top students in the school. Last year, the school recorded a 9.3 mean score, and the deputy principal, who by last evening had not compiled results of all the candidates, said he was hopeful that the mean grade would rise to 9.5.
“The school was determined to produce great results this year. First, we cleared our syllabus early before we deployed another strategy of mentoring our girls. And because of that, we are happy with the results,” an elated Kimng’ok told The Standard.
He disclosed that the students were put into small mentorship groups headed by teachers.
“Each of our candidates had a mentor who ensured that they performed well in different subjects,” the deputy principal said.
