Police have arrested the main suspect behind the gruesome murder of 81-year-old city consultant Dr Gerishon Mwiti who was hacked to death last week on Saturday at his home in Thigiri ridge in Westlands, Nairobi.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, Bernard Kioko who was a gardener at Mwiti’s home was arrested at Mabatini in Mathare after being on the run since the crime.
DCI stated that they launched a manhunt for the suspect from Mwingi, Kitui county until he was arrested today afternoon in Mathare.
“This is after an operation that lasted more than 24 hours, after the suspect engaged detectives in a hide-and-seek game from Mwingi in Kitui county until his arrest this afternoon deep in the Mathare settlement,” DCI stated.
According to the deceased’s son Daniel Mwiti, he found his father’s lifeless body in their garden bearing a deep cut at the back of his head.
The suspect is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation as police seek to unearth more information into the unfortunate murder.
