Kwale county commissioner Karuku Ngumo(Pictured above) has outlawed a group calling itself Taireni saying it is carrying out criminal activities in different parts of the county.

Already fear is that the illegal group is an offspring of the banned Mombasa Republican Council which has been pushing for the breakaway of the coastal region from the rest of the country.

According to intelligence reports, the shadowy group was going round the county holding secret meetings inciting indigenous communities against outsiders with security apparatus closely following the activities of Taireni. Already the group members have been profiled and it is just a matter of time before the government strikes.

According to county security and intelligence briefs, to win sympathy among locals, the group is creating divisions among the diverse communities living in the region.

Governor Mvurya

The group also perpetuates criminal activities in the name of grievances being faced by locals moreso land ownership.

Reports indicate, state security is also monitoring activities of local politicians after Kwale governor Salim Mvurya said politicians with an eye on the 2022 general elections were behind the sprouting of such illegal groups as Taireni.

Recently, Mvurya asked leaders to desist from hate speech and inflammatory remarks that could inflame passions and create hostility among the various communities living in the county.
