The family of the slain former Rongo University student Sharon Otieno has called for a speedy court process to enable them to get justice.

The family said they have confidence that the ongoing judicial process would yield justice and people suspected to have involved in the killing will get convicted.

Sharon’s mother and father Melida Auma and Douglas Otieno commended police which investigated, arrested and took to court suspects linked with the death.

Suspects Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his aide Michael Oyamo and the county official Caspal Obiero had been arraigned in court over the murder.

The suspects are so far, have been released on bond.

On Wednesday, the family urged the court to expedite its trial process to enable them to get justice.

“It’s exactly a year since I lost my agile daughter and friend (Sharon). Let the judicial process expedited for us to get justice,” Auma said.

Speaking at their Magare home village in Homa Bay Town constituency when they marked the first annual anniversary of Sharon death on Wednesday, Auma said they still undergoing pains over the brutal death.

The prayer service was presided over by Lala SDA church pastor Gordon Amuka.

She said as Christians they (the family) are forced to forgive those who wrong them but want justice to prevail over the murder.

Auma said they are undergoing pains since they lost Sharon, noting that she gets comfort by reading 1Corrinthians 10:13.

“We will forgive but not forget. Sharon is gone but let the killers carry their own crosses,” Auma said.

Her father Otieno said appealed to Chief Justice David Maraga to ensure the court delivers justice as fast as possible over the death of his daughter.

He said the autopsy revealed that Sharon and her unborn child faced brutal death that people involved should not go unpunished.

“I hope the common saying that justice delayed is justice denied would not meet this family. But I’m confident that truth will prevail and killers convicted for eliminating Sharon and her unborn baby,” Otieno said.

The anniversary was attended by the family friends and relatives.

Sharon’s uncles Ben Odundo and James Otieno described her as a person who was dedicated in all what she was doing.

Odundo argued that Sharon was going to be a pillar and bread winner in the Otieno’s family.

“Let political and organization leaders who promised to assist Sharon family show up so we can support the education of Sharon’s children,” Odundo said.

Their grandfather Samuel Odege said the brutal death of Sharon still lingers in his memory.

“I lost a granddaughter who used to prepare a delicious meal for me. May those who killed her be heavily punished,” Odege said.

Pastor Amuka said they put the family in prayers.

“We pray for truth to prevail and the will of God to come upon Sharon’s family,” Amuka said.
