A couple in Austin, Texas, has been named the world’s oldest living couple by Guinness World Records.
John Henderson, 106, and Charlotte, 105, have a combined age of 211 years and are set to celebrate their 80 years of marriage next month.
The two, as reported by CNN, met at The University of Texas in 1943 where Charlotte was pursuing teaching and John played in the football team.
They got married in 1939 and spent their honey moon at a hotel room where they racked up a bill of a meagre $7 (approximately Ksh.700).
The two presently reside at a senior living community – Longhorn Village – associated with a University of Texas alumni group.
According to John, who still exercises everyday and was in 2012 named the oldest living former University of Texas football player, the secret to a happy marriage is, “Live life in moderation and be cordial to your spouse.”
