Thankless Ruto Ukambani allies desert his camp – Weekly Citizen

William Ruto’s political allies in Ukambani have suddenly gone dead on their efforts to popularise the DP’s presidential bid in the region.
The allies, a majority of them elected on a Jubilee party ticket in 2013 and 2017 general elections are now singing different political songs even when majority of them are enjoying government appointments courtesy of Ruto.

Kiema

In the runup to the last general elections, the DP engaged leaders from the region and wooed them into joining Jubilee party with the promise of rewarding them once they form government.
Those who stood with Uhuru Kenyatta however complain that he abandoned them upon their reelection and would snub them once they visited his office.
The same leaders who lost their political seats for standing firm behind Jubilee in the region that overwhelmingly rallies behind Kalonzo Musyoka cite cases were Uhuru appointed people who never campaigned for their ticket instead of genuine party loyalists who put their careers on the line to market the party.

Ngumbau

The bitter leaders took a swipe at the appointment of Monica Juma as Foreign Affairs cabinet secretary who they say despite having been born in Mwingi, Kitui, she is married in Murang’a and that her appointment was pushed by powerful tycoons from Mount Kenya region.
The same leaders were also unhappy that the region only got one cabinet slot. As 2022 general elections draws close and with the handshake debate still raging in the country, leaders who had earlier pledged loyalty to DP Ruto are silently chickening out and of late are seen mending fences with Kalonzo with majority now trickling back to Wiper party.

Munyaka

Ruto on realisation that his allies have abandoned him for Kalonzo is now busy bringing on board a new lineup as he seeks to make forays in the region.
In 2017 elections, Jubilee relied on its team from the region to deliver votes but Uhuru and DP Ruto were warned by the intelligence that the team was weak on the ground to deliver any meaningful votes for the party.

Kisoi

It is on this ground that Uhuru stopped financing Jubilee aspirants from the region leaving them exposed to the Nasa wave that was sweeping Ukambani. Jubilee camp had MPs Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Rachel Nyamai (Kitui South), former MPs John Munuve, Kisoi Munyao, Regina Ndambuki, Itwiku Mbai, Richard Makenga, Kiema Kilonzo, Ngumbau Mulwa and businessman Peter Muthoka.
Ruto in his strategy planned to use the same team for his 2022 political gameplan but has put them aside after realising that they are trooping back to Kalonzo.
Currently, Ruto is grooming Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka as his main pointman in the region after dropping Munyaka for having been a Kalonzo sympathiser. The DP has also gone out in full throttle and wants to use his influence in parliament to rearrange house committees and reward those loyal with key posts.
