Seasonal depression affects many of us and can leave you feeling unmotivated, irritable, low in energy and wanting to sleep more. While seasonal sadness eventually clears up when the weather changes, there are some things you can do to help speed up the process.
1. Take Vitamin D supplements and fish oils
One of the main natural sources of Vitamin D is sunlight. Vitamin D plays a role in regulating your mood and Omega-3 oils have an anti-depressant effect so daily supplements are a must.
Even though you may not feel like it, exercise produces mood-enhancing endorphins, the feel-good hormone. A daily 30-minute workout energises your brain and regulates your circadian rhythms.
Relaxing the body through meditation can increase activity in the part of your brain associated with happiness. Take 5 minutes each morning to do some meditation and breathing exercises.
