The National Treasury has rescinded its decision to cut the 2019/2020 Judiciary budget after Chief Justice David Maraga’s outburst on Monday, November 4.
Judiciary’s chief registrar Anne Amadi confirmed treasury has restored both its recurrent and development expenditure.

The chief registrar thanked Law Society of Kenya chief executive Mercy Wambua for her support in the matter where they had sued Treasury CS Ukur Yatani in a letter dated Wednesday, November 6.
“We wish to confirm that the National Treasury has restored the Judiciary recurrent and development budget for the financial year 2019/2020,” Amadi said.
The Chief Justice on Monday, November 4, claimed certain CSs and PSs wanted to take control of the third arm of government by forcing him out of office before end of 2019.
The 68-year-old made it clear he will not resign despite frustrations by national government officials.

Treasury, in the budgetary policy read out in June, capped the Judiciary’s budget at KSh 17.3 billion, only for the allocation to be further reduced to KSh 14.5 billion when Parliament passed the Appropriation Act.
Its development budget was further reduced to a meager KSh 50 million from 4 billion which had been set aside.
