Two robbery with violence suspects were on Monday arraigned in a Nairobi court and charged with escaping lawful custody.
The court heard that Amos Wanyoike Wanjiru and James Kamau allegedly jumped out of a prison lorry while being driven to Nairobi Area Remand and Allocation Prison in Industrial Area on Friday. They were however later rearrested
The two are among 19 suspects facing robbery with violence charges in different courts including Ruiru, Thika and Murang’a.
Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku, the duo denied the charges.
Police constables Michael Njuguna, John Macharia and Zacharia Keya who were escorting the suspects have recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Kamukunji DCI sought to have the suspects denied bail stating that they are likely to abscond trial.
The matter will be mentioned on July 10, 2019.
