Two Foreigners arrested in Hagadera refugee camp on suspicion of having links with Al Shabaab have been acquitted.

The duo from New Zealand and Ethiopia were picked up by detectives last month and taken into custody to answer to terror-related charges.

The suspects were however released by chief magistrate Cosmos Maundu who ruled they had no case to answer and ordered for their unconditional release.

The suspects are now demanding an apology from the police saying their arrests have tarnished their names which amounts to character assassination.

The link between the suspects and struggling refugees signals the complex balance the authorities face between dealing with internal security and offering humanitarian aid.
