A section of Umoja Two residents now wants the Nairobi County government to speed up the opening of the Umoja Two Hospital built by the now defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services.
The hospital which was constructed last year is yet to be opened despite being handed over to the Nairobi County Government.
Christine Atieno a resident of Umoja Two says that the reopening of the hospital will end their frustrations of seeking healthcare.
“Currently we have to go all the way to Mama Lucy Hospital. Mama Lucy has long queues hence does not efficiently serve us,” says Atieno.
The Umoja Two Hospital was constructed in a bid to decongest the Mama Lucy Hospital which serves the entire Eastlands community. The Hospital is yet to receive hospital equipment.
According to the residents area residents will also be able to get jobs from the Hospital and its environs if it is opened.
“We know the hospital was built with the welfare of the area residents in mind. Opening this hospital will enable us get jobs and lift the economy of this area,” stated Rachel a businesswoman.
Other hospitals built by the NMS in Kariobangi, Kayole and Kibra areas are currently functioning despite staff and medical supplies challenges.
