  • Umoja Two Ward Shadrach Machanje has accused landlords of being the biggest impediments to solving the sewage menace in the area.

Umoja Two Kwa Chief residents in Nairobi County are decrying the persistent problem of burst sewer lines in the area.

The residents say that they have time in time out demanded a solution to the sewer line menace to no success.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio, the residents say that they are exposed to cholera and other waterborne diseases any time during the rainy season.

“It’s been two months since this sewer line burst open and nothing is being done to solve this situation. Our biggest concern is that when it rains, the raw waste will enter the water pipes being used in our houses and make us fall sick,” decried a resident.

Landlords frustrating efforts

“We want a new plan to be drawn to accommodate all these houses. Because as it looks, they are unable to do their jobs.

Umoja Two Ward Shadrach Machanje has accused landlords of being the biggest impediments to solving the sewage menace in the area.

Machanje says that any time they want to solve the sewage issue, the landlords move to court.

“We have sent officers to the place for the issue to be resolved to no success. The biggest problem is that those houses have been built on a sewerline.

Machanje says that the sewer line problem has been caused by landlords who have built on top of the sewer lines.

“All those buildings are supposed to be brought down because they have been built on the sewer line. The problem is that, when we wanted to bring down those storey buildings down, the landlords rushed to court and obtained court orders. So we have to wait for the court process,” said Machanje.
