Public University employees have threatened to go on strike should the government effect proposed move to privatize public universities.
The government initiated the privatization process to address the wallowing and financial unsustainability at the public universities.
Led by Kenya University Staff Union Dr. Charles Mukhwaya and UASU secretary general Dr. Constantine Wasonga, privatization of the public university will impact negatively on poor students who would not be able to match their fees.
“It will deny poor Kenyan child the right to education and only benefit the rich. Every person has a right to education and the proposed bill for privatization of university is a threat and a slap to 100 per cent transition policy of basic education. Failure to which the public universities employees will be forced to other available means to reclaim their long lost glory,” Mukhwaya said.
