Eleven-time national football champions Kakamega High School embarrassingly exited the ongoing Nzoia Region Secondary School Term Two B games after falling to minnows AGC Lokichar from Turkana 1-0 in their last Pool A match yesterday.
The Green Commandos—who flew to Lodwar High School—were the laughing stock of many as they left the competition winless while five-time champions St Anthony’s qualified for the semi-finals where they will lock horns with Butula as Kapenguria entertain Bukembe.
National girls champions Wiyeta will take on St Brenda as former champions Bishop Njenga face Tartar. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan region games began at Nyayo Stadium and Upper Hill School yesterday with defending boys football champions Laiser Hill walloping Muvuti 7-0 in their opening Pool A match.
Olympic Secondary School also started brightly, beating Ngaakaa 3-0 in their first encounter to stay in contention for the semi-finals alongside Laiser Hill. Ezekiel Moranga opened the scoring for the Kibra-based side after unrelenting search that lasted half-an-hour before Swan Odhiambo (38th) and Christopher Ombok (46th) netted the second third goals respectively.
Hosts and last year’s losing regional finalists Upper Hill were on top of their game as they thrashed Utithi 4-0 in their Pool B opening encounter. Another heavyweight in the same pool Brother Beausang from Kajiado handed tough lessons to Kimanza, romping to a 6-0 victory in their opening encounter.
Beausang and Upper will battle for Pool B supremacy today with both teams having an equal chance of topping the group. Boys football is already shaping out to be a Nairobi versus Kajiado County affair as it played out last year.
