– Wanyama lost his place in Tottenham’s starting line up following the arrival of Lo Celso and Ndombele
– The pair is currently being preferred ahead of the Harambee Stars midfielder who is yet to feature for the London side
– With the duo out injured, Wanyama could be afforded a place back to the fold after failing to seal a summer departure
Victor Wanyama could be handed a rare start in Tottenham’s next Premier League clash against Crystal Palace slated for Saturday, September 14.
Spurs are currently staring at a possible injury crisis, with Argentine star Giovani Lo Celso the latest casualty on the club’s treatment table.
The summer signing is said to have picked a hip injury during the international break against Chile that could keep him sidelined in the upcoming matches.
Whereas Celso is yet to be handed a first team role at Spurs, his fitness concern could be a blessing in disguise for Wanyama who has fallen down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino.
The Kenyan midfielder is yet to feature for Spurs this season, only making the matchday squad for the side’s season opener against Aston Villa as an unused substitute.
The situation threw the former Southampton star’s future at the Lilywhites into uncertainty, and was widely linked with a summer exit.
He came close to sealing a switch to Club Brugge, but the deal never saw the light of day, and now looks set to return to the fold to fill the void left by injured Celso and Tanguy Ndombele.
