Foldables are the most exciting thing in the smartphone world now, and Samsung with its Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Flip offerings has a clear advantage in market share. However, other manufacturers, especially those from China are starting to catch up in terms of releases at least, and 2023 in particular has seen more of these devices make their way to the market.

While most of the releases so far have been in the fold form factor, such as the OPPO Find N and the X Fold from Vivo, it is actually the clamshell form factor that sells the most taking a look at the sales figures of the Galaxy Fold 4 and Galaxy Flip 4, with the Flip 4 accounting for 70% of the devices shipped. A lower selling price for the Galaxy Flip 4, not to mention the familiar look of a conventional smartphone when opened up, likely played a crucial part in swaying users to the clamshell form factor.

According to leaker Snoopy Tech, Vivo is working on the Vivo X Flip, a foldable with the clamshell form factor to take on the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4. The Vivo X Flip has reportedly already gotten the Google Play certification, therefore its release should be just around the corner.

With Vivo and Oppo both under BBK ownership, it is likely that the Vivo X Flip will share a few design cues and internals with the Oppo Find N2 that was released earlier this year.

In the Geekbench online database, the Vivo Flip X carries the model number V2256A. It will rock the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, although you can get a variant with 256 GB of storage. The phone’s 3C certification confirms 44 W fast charging.

Other rumoured specifications for the Vivo Flip X include a 6.8-inch FHD+ (2,520 x 1,080 pixels) internal screen, a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultrawide, and a 4,400 mAh battery.

It is not yet clear whether this will be a China-only smartphone, however, since the Oppo Find N2 Flip has been made available to the international market, the Vivo Flip X might follow the same route, especially if they share the majority of the internals and design.
