A small coastal town in Kenya will host the tallest tower in Africa, unseating The Pinnacle in Nairobi even before its completion in 2020.

The Palm Exotjca in Watamu beach, Malindi, will be a 61-storey building towering at a height of 370 metres.

Designed by Italian architect Lorenzo Pagnini, the Palm Exotjca looks to add to the coastal town’s increasing clout as a luxury tourism hub.

The architectural design borrows from simple traditionally crafted art pieces of Kenya’s rich culture from the coast.

The mixed use development will among other things contain tastefully furnished residential suites, eclectic restaurants and a vibrant 24-hour casino, a good feature for coastal entertainment.

Likewise, the tower will give its companions uninterrupted views of vivid ocean colours and the picturesque Watamu panorama.

The coastal skyscraper looks to overshadow The Pinnacle in Nairobi’s Upperhill area which, until now, stands as the tallest skyscraper in the continent at 70 storeys and 300 metres in height.

It is, however, not yet clear when construction work at the Palm Exotjca will begin.
