‘We are ready’ says Busia County Coordinator

It’s all systems go in Busia County for the August 9th General Election as the County Coordinator Lazarus Chebii confirms distribution of voting materials and equipment’s to all polling centres in the county.

Addressing members of the press in his office Monday morning, Chebii assured that they have done everything required of them to ensure election exercise slated for Tuesday to  kicks off smoothly without hitches

“This afternoon, we will be releasing Presiding officers to all our 858 polling stations within Busia County in readiness for opening those stations tomorrow morning at 6:00am,” said Chebii.

He noted that already they have trained the personnel who will mann the elections, adding that security arrangements are upto date to secure the highly anticipated one day exercise

“We have received all the requisite voting materials including ballot boxes and papers, and are set for the highly anticipated exercise tomorrow morning,” added Chebii.

The county IEBC coordinator reiterated that transport logistics to swampy areas like osieko, maduwa, Runyu and islands within Lake Victoria on Kenyan side are complete

The RO cited that security arrangements are top gear, thanks to the joint taskforce led by Busia County Commander.

“All our security needs that comprise materials and personnel protection are taken care of,” said Chebii, adding that two security officers will accompany their staff to each of the 858 polling stations.

According to Chebii, the number of registered voters in Busia County stands at 416,756 distributed across the seven sub-counties of Matayos, Nambale, Butula, Budalangi, Funyula, Teso North, and Teso South. He indicated that the county tallying center is Agricultural Training Center (ATC).

Concerning logistic arrangements for electoral staff across the islands in Budalangi Constituency, the RO said that plans are underway to ensure smooth operations.

“In order to transport our election officials from the mainland in Budalangi to interior islands, we have made plans for using boats to transport our staff, security officers, and election material to respective voting centers,” added Chebii.

He appealed to the public to proceed to their homes after casting their votes, adding that links to access the transmission portal will be provided, thus anybody will be able to access results as they come in using their mobile phones, or watch live streaming on their television sets in their homes.
