West Pokot County Assembly resumes sittings amid leadership row – KBC

West Pokot County Assembly has resumed its sessions amid a leadership row among the KANU MCAs on the legitimate Majority Leader and Whip.

County Assembly Speaker Catherine Mukenyang says the Assembly held a sitting Tuesday afternoon attended by eleven members in line with Covid 19 guidelines.

The Speaker says the sitting was a sign of progress after the House adjourned last week due to lack of quorum.

KANU MCAs who had last week boycotted the sittings were represented by 6 members in the Assembly.

The bone of contention is ouster of Majority Leader Thomas Ng’olesya and Majority Chief Whip Maddy Polokou by the County KANU leadership.

The two were subsequently replaced with Weiwei ward representative Mr. David Kapelisiwa and Enduw ward representative Evanson Lomaduny respectively.

The House has been unable to transact business due to the wrangles even as KANU leaders from the County intimidated that the changes will stay.

Mukenyang called for dialogue between the MCAs and KANU saying the pull and push is affecting the Assembly in its oversight mandate.

The Speaker managed to make a communication on issues of the budget and the County Executive Member [CEC] for Finance is supposed to do the pronouncement of the budget on Wednesday after noon.

She said that the Budget and appropriation committee will proceed with the budget report and they will handle the budget for the financial year of 2020-2021 on Wednesday and Thursday next week.
