The unexpected move by controversial former Sports CS Rashid Echesa to end his relationship with Deputy President William Ruto is largely attributed to how former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has stolen the show in the DP’s campaign team.
Echesa in a grudging defection to Musalia Mudavadi led Amani National Congress (ANC) had previously raised concerns how Khalwale was considered top priority in Tangatanga camp despite his late decision to work with the Deputy President a head of 2022 presidential duel.
Multiple sources indicated that Echesa and a host of other Jubilee MPs from Kakamega were not happy of how Khalwale had eclipsed them at the team despite the fact that they had remained loyal and played a pivotal role in UHURUTO reelection.
The former CS announced his shift of loyalty during the burial of Mama Wamatsi in Mang’nga village, Mumias East sub-county where he noted that time has come for the Luyha community to rally behind Musalia.
”There are people who are moving around and they think they are more popular than Musalia because they are given money whose source we do not know’’, he said in direct reference to relationship between Khalwale and Ruto.
Analysts were quick to point out that Echesa’s move was just a tip on an iceberg as political matrix in the region is bound to take unimaginable form ahead of 2022 general elections.
There are reports that a host of Jubilee politicians from the region led by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and his Navakholo counterpart Emmanuel Wangwe were also headed the same direction and will soon go public with their political stand.
