Kirinyaga county assembly speaker Davis Wachira resigned after word went round that a section of MCAs were plotting to have him ejected unceremoniously.
In his resignation letter to the county assembly, Wachira said his resignation was for personal reasons. The assembly now commences on the process of appointing a new speaker to ensure smooth transition and house business.
His resignation letter was copied to the clerk of the assembly, Governor Anne Waiguru and James Murango, the leader of the majority in the assembly.

Reports from the assembly revealed that Wachira panicked following the recent changes in the assembly that saw all committee chairmen removed.
The first to go was the chair of the budget committee, Davis Mathenge and Elisha Mwangi who chaired the gender committee.
Both have been staunch supporters of the governor and seem to have fallen from her favour when they accompanied the health workers to the county headquarters where they were denied entry to the premises during the health workers’ strike three weeks ago.
The MCAs were out to meet the governor and have a dialogue on how the health workers would resume their services at the hospital.
Previously, none of the nominated members of the county assembly headed any committee but now are the ones in the lead.
The development committee is now headed by a nominated member, Scholastic Nyawira, Education committee, Albima Njoka, delegated committee Rose Njeru, finance and economic planning is now under Kefa Kariuki.
The agriculture livestock and fisheries is under Caroline Mureithi, medical services and public health Lucy Mwaniki, youth and sports under the stewardship of Maurine Mwangi, members welfare committee is driven by Beatrice Mitaru, public service and administration, Daisy Nyaguthii, cooperatives, trade, tourism, industrialisation and enterprise development is under Ann Wachera
