Grassroot partnerships with ordinary football clubs has not been widely embraced by local betting companies which have mostly opted for deals with premier league clubs.

With the competition in the industry intensifying, betting firms have been forced to adopt new measures to retain and attract more gamblers.

Ordinary football clubs across the various counties have in the past year received over 35,000 kits through a sponsorship initiative by Odibets.

The kits initiative is a grassroots movement that seeks to connect and associate with ordinary football teams across the country, according to the firm’s marketing manager Aggrey Sayi.

“We want to be associated with “ordinary” brands in the grassroots although we cannot rule out partnerships with bigger teams,” says Sayi.

And to help upcoming stars showcase their talents and put Kenyan players on the global map the firm has been part of soccer tournaments through which top European football agents scout for local football talents.

With two top firms forced to exit the Kenyan market over tough regulations, punters have remained undeterred and have sought other platforms which have since implemented new laws on the withholding of customer winnings at the rate of 20 percent, to abide by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax requirements.
