Do you remember the talent show Tusker Project Fame that was backed by EABL and brought together participants from across East Africa who hoped to emerge the winner of the singing talent search show?
Well, there was an eventual winner who goes by the name Ruth Matete and boy could this lass sing! Anyway, she eventually went on to have a torrid love affair after the show concluded with her beau eventually leaving her after draining her bank account.
After alot of struggle, she managed to pick herself up and go back to her first love, singing in church. Interestingly, she is the scion of one of Kenya’s most celebrated actors, Abel Amunga.
She recently had an interview on Ebru TV in which she begun to reveal alot about her life. She explained how her first few years were lived:
MY MUM GOT ME WHEN THEY WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL AND THEY DID NOT GET MARRIED SO I STAYED WITH MY MUM FOR THE FIRST 6/7 YEARS OF MY LIFE. MY MUM GOT MARRIED TO ANOTHER MAN AND LATER MY MUM INTRODUCED ME TO MY BIOLOGICAL FATHER AND HE TOOK ME GIVEN THAT HE HAD CLEARED SCHOOL. I HAD NEVER BEEN TO SCHOOL I WAS ALWAYS AT HOME DOING HOUSE CHORES. MY STEP DAD WAS NOT SO GOOD TO ME AND MY MUM.
HE WAS A DRUNK AND HE USED TO BEAT ME A LOT. SHE SENSED IT WAS TIME FOR HER TO GO AS SHE WAS ALWAYS IN AND OUT OF HOSPITAL. MY DAD USED TO TELL ME THAT EVEN WHEN MY MUM WAS PREGNANT WITH ME SHE WAS ALWAYS SICK FROM BEING BEATEN.
So from being born to high school sweethearts, she had the miss fortune of living with her mother and her mother’s new man who was abusive to both of them. And just as she thought things were getting better because her father had taken her to live with him in Nairobi, her mother died.
SIX OR SEVEN MONTHS AFTER I CAME WITH MY BIOLOGICAL DAD TO NAIROBI MY MUM DIED.
When she arrived at her father’s house, she found that the actor had already remarried and his wife was not too eager to foster the whole blended family.
MY DAD WAS ALSO MARRIED AND HIS WIFE WAS NOT SO GOOD TO ME, SHE WOULD BEAT ME EVERYDAY WHEN SHE WANTED TO SOLVE ISSUES WITH ME. 3/4 YEARS AFTER I CAME TO NAIROBI, MY STEP MUM CAME TO THE HOUSE AND PACKED ALL HER THINGS AND LEFT. MY DAD DECIDED FROM THEN ON IT WOULD ONLY BE HIM AND I. HE PROMISED TO TAKE CARE OF ME TILL I AM ABLE TO STAND ON MY OWN SOMETHING HE STILL DOES.
