Women leaders led by Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Gender Margaret Kobia have condemned Governor Anne Waiguru’s impeachment by the County Assembly.
“It is unfortunate that Governor Waiguru’s term is being cut short by an impeachment. This is an indicator that some of us do not value strong women leadership. We are disappointed that the Governor is being impeached during the fight against Covid-19 which is negatively impacting on social-economic development of the country,” said CS Kobia.
Governor Ann Waiguru’s impeachment has sparked uproar across the country after she was ousted in a rather dramatic manner that saw some Members of County Assembly (MCAs) spend the night at the Assembly’s chambers.
A total of 23 out 33 members voted to impeach the Governor whom they accuse of gross misconduct, violation of the constitution and abuse of office.

Nominated MCA Lucy Njeri revealed that the high-spirited impeachment is a battle between the County assembly’s Majority Leader James Murango and Governor Waiguru.
“The impeachment is a battle between the assembly’s majority leader and the Governor.” She said
Hon Lucy was speaking during Good Morning Kenya show on KBC.
The MCA stated that the impeachment was ill driven and malicious with a hidden agenda.
She revealed that the County Assembly Majority Leader and a section of MCAs have been supporting the agenda of Waiguru but suddenly they changed tune.
The MCA stated that the County Assembly Speaker was biased and only allowed Members supporting Governor Waiguru’s ouster to raise their points of order.
“What disappointed me is the Speaker being biased. A point of order is very important but I was not given a chance to raise my point of order and that is why I got agitated,” Hon Lucy said.
Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga said that as women leaders they take exception with the purported impeachment.
“This travesty flies in the face of the law given the court order stopping proceedings,” she said.
